The Colorado Association of Realtors (CAR) reported that with the help of a $20,000 grant from the CAR Foundation and a $5,000 grant from the Longmont Association of REALTORS®, the Veterans Community Project (VCP) broke ground last week on the VCP Village in Longmont. VCP Village is an innovative project that will provide housing for veterans and their families.

VCP Village is located on a two-acre property and will have 26 tiny homes for single residency as well as five family homes that will accommodate up to seven persons each. Additionally, all the homes will come equipped with new furniture, housewares, appliances, bedding, and utilities free of charge. There will also be a 3,000 square foot community center.

According to VCP, Village residents and VCP’s specially-trained case managers are working together to achieve incremental, lasting results in the areas of health and wellness, education, employment, financial literacy, and the development of a personal support network.

Once the desired goals are met, VCP assists each Veteran in securing a permanent housing solution and continues follow-up case management for a year. Each Veteran is allowed to take the entire contents of his or her tiny home as they transition to a new life.

While this Longmont development is intended to be small in scale it will have a big impact on the Veteran community in the area. The homes in the VCP Village are designed to be tiny, but Longmont residences often feature more house and yard space at more competitive prices than in the Denver metro area.
